The annual "Addis International Film Festival" (AIFF) is about to open its doors. From May the 1st to the 6th, 2012, Initiative Africa is organizing its popular documentary film festival for the 6th time; some 60 documentaries will be screened in Addis Abeba and major university towns in Ethiopia.

The Festival will be opened at the Italian Cultural Institute  with the film "Town of Runners" by Jerry Rothwell on May the 1st at 5 pm. The producer of the film, Daniel Demissie, will be present for a discussion about the film afterwards.

The key topics addressed by the documentary films and the ensuing panel discussions are globalization, migration, child abuse, environment, social change and gender. Two workshops will be held for film makers on the 2nd and the 5th of May themed  "How to Make a Short Film" and "How to Become a Film Critic". In addition, after-show parties will be hosted.

Over the past five years, the festival has screened hundreds of award-winning documentaries, including some 45 premieres from over 35 countries at the Sebastopol Cinema, the City Hall Theatre, the Alliance Ethio-Francaise, the Italian Cultural Institute, the US Embassy, the British Council, various local youth centres and universities across the country.

EFI is very proud that this year, on Wednesday the 2nd of May, the film "Framing the Other" will be shown at the Alliance Ethio-Francaise. It is a documentary about tourism in Mursi made by Ilja Kok and Willem Timmers and co-produced by the EFI.
